Travel
Closest viable airport is Valencia (1h drive)
Barcelona and Alicante are also good options (2,5h drive)
Rent a car for easy transfer (get your insurance straight). The best local car rental is Centauro.
Get train tickets at Renfe or Trainline
Remember to get a proper travel insurance, the one provided by your federation is crap!
For Norwegians, bringing the European Health Insurance Card is absolutely mandatory (and free)!
Accommodation
October is off season in Castellón. It is possible to get good deals on hotels and AirBnB.
Here are some good options:
The Dropzone
Skytime Centro de Paracaidismo is the beautiful dropzone where all the magic happens. Located so close to the beach you can feel the mediterranean vibe on every load.
Iván Cueto is one of the DZ owners, pilot and skydiver with 10 000+ jumps. He is the main guy and the Yoda of Skytime. He sees everything, hears everything, and knows more about skydiving than all of us. Be nice to him, his crew and his planes and good things will happen.
During Humor Boogie we operate two Cessna 208 Caravans with up to 18 slots each. There is also a Cessna 206 turbine available if the situation calls for it.
Packers are available. Buy your packing tickets from the ticket machine. Note that foreign cards need a transaction of minimum 20€ to work.
We operate under Norwegian rules and regulations. If the local rules are different, the strictest wins. Humor Boogie is no place to challenge safety regulations. Do that somewhere else.
Watch the DZ Brief Video for more information.
Grao de Castellón
The closest and nicest town is Grao de Castellón (port of Castellón), about 2km from the DZ. Most of the people stay in or close to Grao during the boogie. The small town with about 20 000 inhabitants is well known in Spain as a gastronomic destination. The many restaurants focus on local cuisine with fresh seafood as the speciality. Try the pulpo 🐙 for a mediterranean delight and finish the meal with a carajillo. Luckily, there are no menus in Norwegian, usually not in English either.
The skydivers visiting Iván and the DZ are very welcome in Grao. This is a situation we would like to keep. Remember that Grao is a small place where everyone knows everyone. Being a rude asshole will never go unnoticed here. The gossip gets to the dropzone before you do the day after. Be nice and polite. Keep some cash for tips, as the restaurants usually can't handle tips by card.
Be aware of thieves
We have had some bad experiences with people getting their rig and other stuff stolen on their way to or from the boogie. Castellón itself is one of the safest areas in Spain. But outside it is a different story, especially when driving between Barcelona and Castellón.
Tips:
Never leave any equipment unattended in your car or on the bus/train. Bring it with you to the toilet if needed.
Try not to stop along the main roads. If you need to stop, keep at least one person in the car at all times.
Do not stop at people waving for help along the road. Let the locals handle that. Cynical but safe.
